Portland Rotarians are reaching out to those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti -- the Charitable Trust will be donating $1,000 of Trust funds to purchase a ShelterBox, an emergency supply box containing shelter, supplies, and a variety of other disaster-relief items.
Rotarians can further donate to recovery efforts in Haiti by contributing to The Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, a fund established by Rotary International to streamline U.S. contributions. You can also text "ROTARY 90999" to make a $5 donation.
The following charitable organizations are also accepting contributions:
Mercy Corps, a global nonprofit headquartered in Portland whose mission is to alleviate suffering by helping to build productive communities.
The Salvation Army, a U.S. ministry movement with a large presence in Haiti.
The Red Cross, the U.S.'s premier emergency response organization. The Red Cross is also accepting text message donations: texting "Haiti 90999" will donate $10.
Medical Teams International, a Christian global health organization that empowers communities to live full and healthy lives.
We appreciate everyone's desire and willingness to help fund aid projects for the survivors in Haiti.

Large community projects are a Rotary tradition and an example of how members live up to the Rotary goal of offering 'Service Above Self.' Among our 100-year highlights are: donations to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital beginning in the 1920's, more than $13 million raised to finance both the Rose Garden Children’s Park and the new Portland Children’s Museum in Washington Park, and $1.5 million to create six 14-person cabins at Rotary Village at YMCA Camp Collins. Our Club is thrilled to contribute to the continued success of New Avenues for Youth, and to continue our community service tradition for the next 100 years.
